TODAY'S SPEAKER

Ron Worland, MD

Ron Worland, MD was our inspiring speaker for the day.  What good works he does in the world, traveling to different countries as a plastic surgeon repairing cleft palates.  He works for different organizations putting teams of surgeons, nurses, and other medical personnel together to go to a location where they can repair cleft palates of 140 children in one visit.  He has made 40 different trips.  He’s been to China 9 times.  It was his latest trip to China he talked about today and showed us a film of children before and after that he had performed surgery on.

PRESIDENT'S TIME

New schedule set for board meetings:  the board will meet the 2nd Tuesdays so members can attend the Kihei Community Association meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The next one is March 14th at Patty Hemmen’s.

Club social:  March 29th at Kam III, potluck.

President Kit will be gone for the last three meetings in March.

Ron Harris and Stuart Karlan will take over in his absence.

Steve Moksnes showed the club the new membership loose-leaf notebook he’s made up to encourage members to write in possible names of guests they’d like to invite to Rotary for lunch.  It will be passed around each week, with updates of who is actually being invited.  He guarantees 30% increase in membership!

Patty Hemmen told us about the trip she and eleven other club members made to Kihei Elementary school this morning to read Dr. Seuss books to seven different first grade classes.  Dr. Seuss is celebrating his 113th birthday!  Next year we will include Kamalii school as well.

Jason Denhart gave us an update on the rescue tube project.  By May those tubes will be installed at different beaches.  Permission and Liability insurance papers have been signed.  Now comes the 4 to 6 week campaign to educate the public.  The Fire and Ocean Safety departments will help with this.  The tubes will be placed 300 feet apart, and will float 3 people each.  They will have the Club Rotary logo.

MAGIC MARBLE

With $337 in the kitty to date, Ron picked a ticket and  Don Bacon drew a blue marble.

CLOSING THE MEETING

Stuart Karlan led the members in the Aloha song for our guests.

President Kit closed the meeting with the Four Way Test + One at 1:20 p.m.
