TODAY'S SPEAKERS
Kihei Charter School Interact President Jade visited our club today and said the interact club is keeping very busy.
Jade reported on the activities of the club's first year, including the fundraiser Art show that Mary Rolanter, our club liason, hosted in her North Kihei studio.
One of their planned projects is to spruce up the Kihei Boat Ramp.
Mark Harbison presented President. Jade with Rotary Interact pins for the 12 K.C.S. members, along with their official certificate of membership.
Our guest speaker today was Mr. Saul Larner, PhD, LLM, MBA with his Ph..D. in economics and founding director of SP Larner Global Dispute Resolution
He gave us details of the various situations he deals with as a mediation specialist with the Dispute Resolution Collaborative such as corporate disputes, business succession planning, settlements, real estate, investor issues, divorce, and pre and post nuptial agreements..
“Settlement as an art” is Saul's motto and co-operation is his method.
Saul informed us that a mediator isn’t really the decision maker, unless all parties agree. He continued saying, the role of the mediator is more important than the role of the decision makers, which are usually the parties, because, it is too difficult for them to agree or there would not have been a mediation scheduled.
Therefore, the mediator is a facilitator who shows all of the parties the most logical alternatives and it is for them to make the final decisions.
Saul also told us that a highly skilled mediator is really making the decision, but in a way that all parties see it, and rightfully so as their idea.
