TODAY'S SPEAKER
Terry Alling

Randy introduced:

Terry Allingmember of Team Rubicon Disaster Response Team.

Terry Alling is a member of the Team Rubicon Disaster Response Team. He is a former member of the US Military, Air Force, and Special Operations team.

Team Rubicon was founded by two gentlemen who decided to go to Haiti to help after a hurricane struck the country leaving it in ruins. The organizations will go anywhere in the world. It is based out of Los Angeles with the Distribution Center in Dallas, Texas. There are nine different regions and he is located in Region 9, which is Hawaii. Video followed

through it, denoting nothing is impossible. It is the first mass unit outside of the military, approved by the WHO.

What impacted him to get involved was watching, on television, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. He raised $25,000 with four other police officers to go to Louisiana. There he met many other people like himself who wanted to help. He mentioned skills sets relating to people who are teachers, real estate agents, retired military personnel and physically challenged.

Prior to Texas hurricane, the group stood at 25,000 volunteers which have grown to 70,000. 70% of the volunteers are from the military which

When a disaster happens, deployment happens very quickly with leaders contacting the affected and determining their needs. Management sends a person to establish contact, chain of command will say what is needed and each region has their own chain of command. From there, action is taken immediately. For example, Home Depot, in the past, has donated a large inventory of generators.

With the disaster season already in play, Kauai is the most recent disaster relief situation. Their teams are on the ground ready to help. Terry was wearing a Team Rubicon shirt today which he emphasized he did not buy but earned.

Terry showed two very inspiring Team Rubicon videos:
