TODAY'S SPEAKER
Kelly Keating
Kelly Keating a general contractor from Alaska, who has now moved with his family to Maui.  His company, Blazy Construction, is building the South Maui Recreation center.  Kihei is the only community in Maui County without an indoor gymnasium.  His firm is building an indoor rec center as part of the South Maui Community Park in the first phase of the development.  Kelly showed us the site plans.  They are putting in 160 parking stalls as well as a gymnasium with 2 hardwood basketball courts with 12 backboards adjacent to the existing soccer field next to Kihei Elementary School.  There will be over 1000 bleacher seats, meeting rooms for the community, several restrooms, commercial kitchen, food truck area...  The facility will be air conditioned. Much of the infrastructure work has been done.  The goal is to have the job completed by February 2019.  The superintendent is Hawaiian as are many of the construction workers and Kelly shared that their work ethic is unequaled as is their Aloha Spirit.
Kelly’s dad was a Rotarian and he said he learned his ethics from his Rotarian dad.  Kelly joined Rotary at about 45.  Said reason he hadn’t joined previously: he wasn’t asked.  Great message there.  Ask!  Kelly has been a club president, as well as other positions and his company moved an entire school in Nicaragua.  Good thing someone asked!
