Hawaiian Word of the Day & Meaning: Kuleana
One’s personal sense of responsibility- I accept it and I will be held accountable. Surface meaning is..."it's my kuleana to prepare and lead this meeting." Deep meaning is significant--"I walk this earth to do this task, to be this person, to serve my people."

August is National Clown Month created by President Richard Nixon. All obstacles and roadblocks and those difficult things that happen in our lives can be evaporated for a few moments if you put on a clown nose and look at yourself in a mirror--cannot NOT smile and feel wonderfully foolish!

Homelessness on Maui
mauirescuemission.org
Maui Rescue Mission was founded in 2015 by Brian Nelson and John Savage. MRM provides outreach teams that work to build trust and provide base-levels of services and sundries that give a reason to begin a conversation and forge a relationship. This is done through their Mobile Services Unit. The unit contains a shower, a toilet and wash basin, two washer and dryer units, free wi-fi, and change of clothing. From this outreach, those in need are able to get the help through information and referral services.

Rotarian Redux
“Rotary is important to me because Rotary is a group of always friendly
and welcoming folks who do helpful things in their community and
around the world. Just look in this room at Mark Harbison, Barry
Hyman, Kelly Trang, and Mark Barry for examples.
I'm holding a Roman ballista - the ancient artillery shell - which I found in the Golan Heights in Northern Israel. Yes it has something to do with why I'm a Rotarian.
Because of some formative experiences I've had around the world, I've
come to believe that all of us are essentially the same at our most basic level. But there are still communications blocs preventing that dynamic from working as it could.
But Rotarians around the world are knocking that blockage down everyday as I read about in the Rotarian magazine.
Combined with the power of the internet and social media, it seems to me that Rotarians around the world can play a role in maybe ultimately making obsolete the use of our contemporary Ballista....nuclear weapons....because of showing folks on the ground around the world that really, we're all the same.”
