Today's Meeting
The meeting opened at noon by Joe Mitchell, substituting for Joanne Doell. Joe referred to today as "The Oldest of Old RI Club Presidents Day." And he was chosen!
Inspiration shared by Elizabeth Kemmish: “Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
– Roy T. Bennett
Hawaiian Word of the Day: Mālama: means the Value of Stewardship. To take care of as in the phrase…Malama da aina (Take care of the land). To serve and to honor, to protect.

Today's Speaker
Gill McBarnet
Gill grew up in Zimbabwe, Africa, finished school and taught school there. While working in the magazine industry she met her husband from Maui and has been living on Maui 34 years. She started writing children’s books when reading to her children. The books are all about animals you might find on Maui and have lessons for children. Each of her 15 books are both written and illustrated by her. Some are written in verse. Three have been made into plays. One has sold over 250,000 copies.

Happy Dollars
Mark Barry, just back from Africa, told us his program training pediatric orthopedic surgeons is going well. The club has been granted a Rotary International grant to support Mark's work.
Mark Harbison was happy to bring District grant dollars back from Oahu to Maui to fund a children’s book grant and to buy more rescue tubes for our beaches.
ACT OF KINDNESS: Stuart took his car into the Phillips 76 station on South Kihei Road to fix a starting problem, but after doing a full diagnostic, they found nothing wrong, so they didn’t charge him anything, which he appreciated as an act of kindness.
MAGIC MARBLE: Dave Ballaine was in charge this week. Billie Moksnes drew a blue marble so the pot of $245 goes on to the next week.
Closing the Meeting: Stuart sings us out of the meeting.
