Guest Speaker: Mark Harbison, our Director of International/District Grants, gave us a report on his time early this month in Hamburg, Germany on the Rotary International  Convention.  Lots of information on Hawaii convention, “Honolulu 2020”.  Networking and fellowship:

Some details of the Convention:

  • Our Sister District is 2650 (Nara, Kyoto, etc). Our Sister Club is Kashihara. We have 11 Sister Clubs in our District, including Lahaina Sunset and Yamato Mahoroba (also in Nara). They are considering a pledge of $30,000 DDF and more club cash to our Dr. Mark Barry's Uganda VTT this year.

  • Go to this website to see our Rotary areas of focus…  https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes

  • You can go to the UN’s website… https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/sdgs  which defines their Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

  • And the last night networking party, Women in Rotary, was sponsored by Jennifer Jones, who is the woman most likely to become RI’s first female president.

  • 2020 International Convention in Honolulu in June 2020.
15,000 people at the Hamburg convention already registered for the 2020 convention; up to 35,000 are expected next year. If you haven’t registered yet for this event in our back yard, the least expensive $395 time frame ended 6/6/19, however, you can go to https://www.riconvention.org/en/honolulu/registration-fees  to register and check fees.

    Convention fee increases over time:
    $450 from 6/15/19 thru12/15/19 — $550 from 12/16/19 thru 3/31/20 — $650 from 4/1/20 thru 6/10/20

Some other fees are less expensive for under 30-year-olds.

  • The Convention is looking for volunteers to assist from all islands; Paige Fontaine is our 2020 Contact:  paige@tiki.net

Mark can be contacted at markaharbison@gmail.com.  His slide show with photos of the Convention is attached. An eblast with more of Mark's information will be sent in the future.

In the World Wacky of Unusual Commemoration Days (or Wacky Month):
WORLD SAUNTERING DAY.  So, dear members and friends, forget fast walking or walking for exercise.  Sauntering allows one to not just “stop and smell the roses”, but to be totally present and mindful in discovering the little things along the way.

4 Way Test: Joe Mitchell led us

Meeting ended at 1:07 p.m.

Stu—sang us out the door. Mahalo nui loa--Thank you very much  and a hui hou! --until we meet again.
